Anyone up for a pullsports workshop? [Oct. 19th, 2011|10:26 pm]

(X-posting) to dfwdogs, thedogcommunity

I'm currently putting together a list of interested parties for a 'intro to pulling sports' workshop that will run in December or January here in Dallas- location to be determined. While any proceeds are going to go to TX Husky rescue, this workshop will be for all breeds, but limited to dogs 12 months and older.

We'll be covering the various different types of pulling sports, including carting/drafting, bikejooring, scootering, sledding, , and weight pull, the different types of things that dogs need to learn for each sport, as well as covering fitting and introducing equipment, and introducing each dog to the basic skills sets.

Registration will be in the neighborhood of $75 and include lunch and a multi-purpose training harness.

Any interest? :)

Texas - House Bill - 3180 [May. 22nd, 2009|01:11 pm]

There is a bill currently at the Texas Senate Criminal Justice Committee, and they're expected to hold a hearing on it very soon. The bill is for "licensing, regulation and inspection of commercial dog and cat breeders and will regulate the retail sale of dogs and cats." It's pretty tame, but I think it is a good start in decreasing puppy mills.

In order to show your support for the bill, please call the committee at 512-463-0345, say that you are calling in regards to "House Bill 3180", and tell them you support the bill.
(They didn't even ask for my name, so I'm not sure how they're regulating people calling multiple times.)

Thanks!

Service dog program in North Texas looking for puppyraisers [May. 21st, 2009|05:10 pm]

(Crossposted - sorry if you see it twice. :)

Do you love dogs and want to make a difference in the life of a person with a disability? Consider becoming a puppyraiser for Dogstar Assistance Dogs!

As a puppyraiser for DSAD, you would provide a home for a puppy in our training program. Your responsibilities would include socializing the puppy to various people, sights, sounds, and experiences. You would also train the puppy in in basic obedience, manners, and proper public behavior - you and your puppy would attend weekly classes for puppyraisers where you will learn the necessary skills to teach your puppy. While the puppy is with you, he will be able to enjoy being a puppy while learning the skills he needs to know and gaining confidence and maturity.

If you are interested in becoming a puppyraiser or want to know more about puppyraising, please contact us at dogstarad (at) gmail (dot) com.

Just a quick note.... [Oct. 12th, 2008|01:18 am]

I *may* have a (screened- this isn't first-come first served, but based on finding a dog who will fit well into the group coming up.) space available in my upcoming "Control Unleashed" class based on the curriculum designed by Leslie McDervitt. CU is a clicker-based, pure positive program which uses counterconditioning and desensitization to teach your dog focus, self control, and the ability to remain in communication with you in the face of stimulating events. Originally used as a problem-solving class for agility dogs, CU makes an EXCELLENT foundation for dogs and owners interested in a future in dog sports or a general environment to work on reactivity  and focus issues. Class starts 10/21/08 and will be held in Lancaster, 20 minutes south of downtown Dallas.

Email trainsdogs@gmail.com for more info.

Lab/Pitbull Puppies for Adoption [Aug. 23rd, 2008|11:27 am]
DFW DOGS!

tesseractyl
we have a litter of 7 puppies, half black lab half pitbull, only a month old. they are now fully weaned, and have started eating small kibble mixed with milk and soft dog food. 4 males (2 of them brindles) and 3 females available. we are looking for people willing to take care of these puppies who will grow to be quite large dogs (but very sweet!)

they will need their shots soon, and will do best if you have plenty of space for them to run around. please do not reply if you are merely looking for a guard dog or a breeding dog. these puppies are very sweet-natured and will not grow up to be fierce at all.

they will, however, eat a lot! :D we are located in south fort worth, and would love for you to stop by to take a look at them. please contact me if interested.

The first leg of the trip starts in Plano, and she will ultimately end up in Lubbock.
